Hey beautiful
do you know the amazing benefits of coconut oil as a beauty product?!
I’m just in love with coconut oil, its amazing smell, and benefits as a beauty product.
Till August 2015 I used coconut oil only in my kitchen and had absolutely no idea that it would become my favorite beauty product ever. ❤
After moving to Beijing, for an exchange semester, my skin got dry and nothing seemed to help.
Thanks to Pinterest, my number one tool for ideas not only for beauty BUT just everything, I discovered the beauty benefits of coconut oil.
I tried out several tips from Pinterest and discovered six ways which worked for me the best.
Today I would like to share with you ladies how I include coconut oil in my daily beauty routine and show you how you can do it as well.
1. Face Cream and Eye Cream
After discovering coconut oil I’m not buying any creams or lotions from the drug store anymore, I do all my creams by myself at home.
You will love this face cream, which I also use as night and eye cream. It’s that awesome. ❤
This homemade face moisturizer is amazing as you need only two ingredients and its super easy to make. I change it up from time to time and add also a third ingredient. I will share with you both of my variations.
The coconut oil nourishes your skin as it has a strong healing and antibacterial qualities and it’s an extraordinary moisturizer and skin softener.
The face moisturizer helps the skin to keep hydrated. It’s also great as a night cream as it works overnight and gives best results. You will wake up with soft and moisturized skin.
You can use it as an eye cream as it helps to reduce the under-eye-bags. The vitamin E helps to make the eyes looks less puffy as it lightens the dark spots and prevents wrinkles.
Instructions
1st Variation
You will need:
- ½ cup organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of vitamin E oil
- optional, 1-2 drops lavender essential oil
- a medium container to store the cream
Mix all ingredients and let it cool to harden. When you decide to add the essential oil please always check first that the essential oil is suitable.
The vitamin E is beneficial for fighting the signs of aging as it’s a strong anti-oxidant. The lavender oil does not only help to fall asleep easier but its also fight redness, heal skin, and soothes the skin.
Just a side note if you breastfeed or are pregnant please leave the lavender essential oil out.
2nd Variation
You will need:
- ½ cup organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of vitamin E oil
- 1 tablespoon of almond oil
- optional, 1-2 drops lavender essential oil
- a medium container to store the cream
Mix all ingredients and let it cool to harden. When you decide to add the essential oil please always check first that the essential oil is suitable. For mixing the cream you can either use an egg whip or a hand or stand mixer.
Just a side note if you breastfeed or are pregnant please leave the lavender essential oil out.
The almond oil is beneficial as it delays aging, helps to remove dark circles and make the skin healthy. Plus the almond oil is adding additional vitamin E to the cream.
2. Face Scrub with Baking Soda
This powerful combination of coconut oil and baking soda is just amazing. It’s the best and most effective face scrub I’ve ever tried.
This combination treats problematic skin such as acne and redness. Helps to get rid of blackheads and cleans your skin at the same time. Isn’t it fantastic 😀
And the good news is you probably have the ingredients already in your kitchen.
Coconut oil nourishes your skin as it has a strong healing and antibacterial qualities and it’s an extraordinary moisturizer and skin softener. The baking soda, on the other hand, helps you to balance the pH of your skin and helps to prevent further wrinkles.
I would recommend using the face scrub at least two times a week for a great result.
Instructions
You will need:
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 2 teaspoons of organic virgin coconut oil
- optional add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil
Mix the ingredients with a spoon in a small bowl and apply it gently on your skin. I would recommend you to massage it slowly with circular motions.
You have two options: either you wash it off with warm water after the gently massage or you can leave it for up to 5 minutes and use it as a mask and wash it off afterward.
Benefits of the face scrub
- treats problematic skin
- treats redness
- helps to prevent wrinkles
- get rid of blackheads
- cleans your skin
-
elimination of excess dirt, oil, and dead skin
3. Makeup-Remover
You will love this one I promise. This DIY makeup-remover is super easy to make and to apply.
What I love about homemade beauty products is that you know what you put on your skin and this is just awesome, isn’t it 😀
There are several combinations of makeup removal. I love to use the simple one which requires only three ingredients and is super easy to make. It removes also great the eye makeup so give it a try.
Instructions
You will need:
- a medium container
- 1/2 cup of organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon almond oil
- 3-5 Drops of lavender essential oil
Melt the coconut oil in a microwave and mix in the almond oil. Add 3 to 5 drops of lavender essential oil and let it cool until it hardens. For mixing your ingredients I would recommend a had or stand mixer for the best result.
To remove your makeup apply a small amount on a cotton pad. Be gentle around your sensitive eye area.
This makeup remover is not only removing your makeup but it also moisturizes your face every time you use it. The lavender oil is cleansing and helps the skin to restore with anti-aging properties.
4. Coffee Body Scrub
This one is just awesome especially for our worst enemy „The Cellulite“. This coffee and coconut oil scrub is easy to make. You can make a big jar and store it in the fridge for up to a month.
I use two different variations to make this scrub as I like to change it up from time to time.
The coffee is the key in this scrub as the caffeine helps diminish the appearance of cellulite as it stimulates the blood and helps to pull out the toxins. And it helps to get read of dead skin cells. Let’s just call it the magical body scrub 😀
Instructions
1st Variation
You will need:
- a medium container
- 2 tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil
- 1/2 cup coffee grounds
You can either use fresh coffee grounds or the used coffee grounds. I prefer to use the used coffee grounds as you can enjoy the coffee first and use the grounds for your spa treatment afterward 🙂
Melt the coconut oil and mix it with the coffee grounds. Let it cool and store it in the fridge. I would recommend using this scrub under the shower as its very messy. Apply this scrub in circular motions especially at the cellulite area and rinse it off with water. I wodul recommend to apply the scrub at leat once a week for better results.
An extra tip here after rinsing it off try a rotational hot and cold water shower. This method stimulates the blood circulations and the lymphatic system and helps to fight cellulite.
2nd Variation
You will need:
- a medium container
- 2 tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil
- 1/2 Cup coffee grounds
- 2 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar
The instructions are the same as above just add the sugar to the melted coconut oil and the coffee grounds.
5. Body Lotion
This body lotion is amazing and makes your skin super soft and it’s also super easy to make.
For my body lotion, I change up between two variations from time to time and also the essential oils, which are optional, but I find it just amazing when my body lotions smell great and I enjoy the smell so much on my skin.
Instructions
1st Variation
You will need:
- a container
- 1 cup of organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 cup shea butter
- 2 teaspoons vitamin E
- 10 drops lavender essential oil or sweet orange essential oil or your favorite scent
Melt the shea butter and coconut oil and mix them together. Add the vitamin E and mix it before adding the optional essential oil.
To mix the ingredients you can use a hand or stand mixer, it’s up to you. I use a hand mixer and am very happy with my result 🙂
Let it cool and the amazing body lotion is ready to use.
The great thing about shea butter is that it’s moisturizing your skin, soften and strengthening it. Helps to reduce wrinkles and it reduces inflammation, that’s just awesome.
This body lotion has the best ingredients combined to make your skin soft and to strengthening it with all the vitamins and oils included. You should give it a try and I promise you will love it.
2nd Variation
If you are short on time and don’t want to get all the above-mentioned ingredients I have another variation for you 😀
You need just two ingredients. Basically its the same recipe as the face and eye cream. If you like you can add also essential oil. I believe that the essential oils give my creams the special kick and make them just perfect 🙂
You will need:
- a container
- 1 cup of organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vitamin E
- optional 8-10 drops lavender essential oil or sweet orange essential oil or your favorite scent
Melt the coconut oil in your microwave and add the vitamin E mix it and add the optional essential oil. Let it cool et voilà 😀
6. Shaving Cream
My last one on the list is the shaving cream. After trying this one out I promise you, you’ll never buy shaving cream from the drug store again.
This shaving cream is perfect for sensitive skin and it also moisturized your skin while shaving at the same time. And the good thing is you need just a small amount to shave with.
Instructions
You will need:
- a container
- 1 cup of organic virgin coconut oil
- 1 cup shea butter
- 1/4 cup almond oil ( you can also use olive oil)
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
Melt the shea butter and the coconut oil. You can use the microwave or melt it over low heat in a pot. When the shea butter and coconut oil is melted add the almond oil (or olive oil) and stir it. Add the lavender essential oil and mix it with your hand mixer until its soft and smooth. Store your shaving cream in a cool and dry place. It should be good for about 6 – 8 weeks.
